Job summary

BANK - Specialist Occupational Therapist - Band 6

  • To be responsible for the provision of Occupational Therapy ensuring that services support the discharge of patients by providing specialist assessment and discharge planning.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate timely assessment and timely, co-ordinated discharge planning.
  • To hold responsibility for own caseload, working with and without direct supervision.
  • Provide support for the clinical supervision for Band 5 Occupational
  • Therapists, student Occupational Therapists and give direction to members of support staff.
  • To work flexibly, being willing to work on other Units if / when required.

Main duties of the job

  • To obtain and communicate information, gaining consent to client understanding of, and client compliance with treatment programmes.
  • Recognising patients may present with complex conditions or may have emotional, physical or physiological conditions, requiring the use of verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • To liaise with all members of the relevant multi-disciplinary team, as well as the patients, carers and external agencies.
  • To liaise with colleagues in all physiotherapy teams as appropriate.
  • To work single-handed or as part of the Health Care Team and demonstrate good communication skills at all levels.
  • To participate as a full member of the team(s), contributing to the development and practice of both uni-disciplinary and multidisciplinary care
