Children and Young People's Occupational Therapist - Band 6

  • To provide an Occupational Therapy Service to children and young people with complex needs who experience difficulties in their functional abilities or skills development in the areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure. The post may include work in schools, clinics, and homes in accordance with the service level agreement for CLCH Community Services
  • To contribute to the development of the community Occupational Therapy services for children and young people.To meet the Health Education Health Care plan recommendations and provision for children and young people with SEND health needs.
  • To develop and provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, advice and treatment to children with functional difficulties (including children with statutory needs, e.g., vulnerable children, safeguarding and child protection issues/concerns) in a variety of community settings.
  • To work closely with the multidisciplinary team, school staff and families to plan and provide assessment and treatment. To work in a defined clinical area, working autonomously and without direct supervision, and being accountable for own clinical actions.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a specialist level of clinical skill in Occupational Therapy for children and young people with a variety of physical, learning, emotional and social needs.
  • To be responsible for a complex clinical caseload of children and young people or identified health needs in their Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • To contribute to the assessment for Education Health and care plans (EHCP's) for children and young people providing recommendations to meet outcomes in line with the Children's Act 2014 and SEND code of practice 2015.
  • To provide updated health advice and recommendations for Annual Reviews (AR) of EHCP's and attend annual reviews for complex cases where required.
  • To use standardized and non-standardized assessment, interview and observation skills to determine needs of children and effectively set goals and plan intervention

  • Evidence of attendance to training in the area of assessment and treatment of children with complex functional needs

Experience

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge/experience in paediatric occupational therapy or appropriate experience in other Occupational Therapy setting which brings relevant transferable skills.
  • Experience of working with ASD, Neurological conditions, Coordination disorders and functional needs.
  • Knowledge/experience in the use of relevant assessment and treatment approaches and practices, including the use of standardized assessments. oCommunity/school or educational environment experience oEvidence of effective multi-disciplinary and multi-agency work oEvidence of understanding EHCP processes or willingness to prioritise as part of induction.
