Job summary

We are looking for a positive, self-motivated Paediatric Dietetic assistant with an interest in providing outstanding clinical care to children and young people across Merton community clinics. The role entails supporting the clinical team in running the children's dietetic services.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to provide advice and treatment to children and young people with a range of needs including allergies and intolerances, nutrition and hydration advice, faltering growth with/ without reflux, weight management and fussy eating. The role will include work with children and young people and their carers under the guidance of the senior dietician.

Your role will be to provide advice and treatment to children and young people with a range of needs including allergies and intolerances, nutrition and hydration advice, faltering growth with/ without reflux, weight management and fussy eating. You will work closely with established multi-professional teams within Merton Community services and with outside services to deliver Paediatric dietetics support with the dieticians meeting the needs of children and young people across Merton. You will have had experience of working with children in the community or similar and your communication and team working skills will be excellent.

We are committed to professional development and evidence-based practice, offering regular in-service training and peer group / one to one supervision. Internal and external courses are supported. You will be required to have at least 2 years experience working within the community with appropriate transferable skills working with children, administrative duties, and be willing to further develop clinical skills for a busy community caseload.

  • Basic literacy, numeracy and level of education
  • Evidence of nutrition qualification, NVQ study to level 3 or equivalent qualification in Health and Social Care

Desirable

  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Degree in Nutrition related subject

Experience

Essential

  • To have experience of working as part of a team
  • Previous experience working with the public
  • Experience in dealing with members of the public who may have communication difficulties.
  • To have administrative experience
  • To work independently within defined parameters.

Desirable

  • To have experience of working in a health care setting
  • To have previous experience of working as a Nutrition Assistant
  • To have experience of working as a member of a Dietetic Team
  • Experience in coordinating group education programmes
  • Experience in delivering group education

Skills

  • Understands Health & Safety policy and is aware of the need to comply with other relevant Trust and departmental policies and procedures
  • Good communication skills in both verbal and written format

Other

Essential

  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
