Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Central London Community Healthcare, Speech and Language Therapy Service to join our Speech and language therapy team in the London Borough of Brent. We provide comprehensive assessment and therapy packages for pre-school and school aged children with a range of speech, language, and communication needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for an innovative and creative Speech and Language Therapy Assistant with very good communication skills to work as part of our highly skilled, dynamic and supportive Speech and Language Therapy team.

Main duties of the job

To develop and implement programmes of support to children and families under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapy line manager and team, to promote development of communication, language, speech skills for preschool children and young people

To assist the speech and language therapists in assessments, taking observations of children's communication skills e.g. social communication, play, attention, understanding, language and speech.

To run groups with the speech and language therapists.

To plan and deliver, under the supervision of the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, health promotion activities, workshops and programmes of education / therapy practice for families and school practitioners

To support SLTs with preparation for delivery of training including room bookings, managing promotion of courses, managing applications and attendees' queries, preparation and copying training materials and organising set-up

To provide advice to others regarding the development of speech, language and communication skills

  • NVQ level 3-4 or equivalent in a related subject
  • Evidence of good general education, English/Mathematics GCSE or equivalent qualification

Desirable

  • Keyboard skills and computer literacy

Experience

  • Any paid/unpaid work in a health or social services/charity setting involving working with families and young children for at least 1 year.
  • Personal experience via family, friends etc. or willingness to learn, in working with children and their families
