Technical Instructor/Rehabilitation Care Worker

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Technical Instructor (TI) to join Barnet Unplanned Care Service. We have a number of pathways within the service such as D2A, NWB, Delirium and Enhanced Nursing as well as the Rapid Response Patients.

The Unplanned care team provides short term support to help patients manage the short term transition from hospital to home and regain their independence.

The Technical Instructor's role will focus on supporting therapists/Nurses in the Team to improve patient's independence. The role will include promotion of daily living skills, simple Home Exercises Programme (HEP) to improve balance/muscle strength and personal/social care.

Main duties of the job

  • The successful postholders will perform nursing and therapy procedures where necessary for which adequate training has been given.
  • They will work under the supervision of the professional staff in the Unplanned care team in the rehabilitation and nursing of patients.
  • To work to agreed standards of care within the Team and always to consider the needs and wishes of the patient and their families.
  • To be highly organised with excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience of being able to follow Therapy and Nursing care plans and treatment plans in a community environment. Successful post holders must have an ability to work 35 hours per week. Hours of work are 9:00 - 16:30

Essential

  • Good general education (GCSE or equivalent knowledge)
  • NVQ Level III
  • Good oral and written communication skills, basic computer and keyboard skills.

Desirable

  • Willingness to undertake further training as appropriate
  • Trusted Assessor trained.
  • PSI qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of two years' experience as a Therapy/ Rehabilitation Assistant working in health or similar post.
  • Experience of working in the Community setting
  • Experience of working with elderly people and in particular frail elderly people and people with physical disabilities.

Desirable

  • Experience with SystmOne

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the role of a Rehabilitation Assistant in a community rehabilitation team
  • Basic knowledge of the role of Allied Health Professionals (e.g., Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy) in the treatment of physical conditions
  • Knowledge of the effects of the ageing process and needs of vulnerable adults in relation to their health and well-being
  • Knowledge of the effects of the ageing process and needs of vulnerable adults in relation to their health and well-being
  • Able to problem solve, organise, prioritise and demonstrate sound judgement
  • Basic competency training in: Mobility assessment, individual exercise programme, falls prevention.
