Therapy Assistant

Job summary

To assist the learning disability therapists in their work within the CLCH Learning Disability Service. The post holder will work under the direction of the therapists as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, whilst using his/her own initiative in carrying out duties.

The post holder's time will be spent in various community settings including day centres, service users' homes and at the team bases. There is opportunity to work with other professionals on the team. The work will include assisting with group and individual therapy, making and maintaining treatment and assessment materials and providing administrative assistance.

The post holder will promote independence, dignity, choice, self-esteem and wellbeing of service users and their carers.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specific therapy intervention for people who have learning disability and are living in the community as directed by lead clinician.
  • To assist with planning individual, group work and service user goalsetting under the continued direction of the therapists.
  • To be able to explain intervention process and the role of different therapies to the service user.
  • To comply with moving and handling regulations prescribed by the EEC directive.
  • To assist service users in using community facilities e.g. hydrotherapy, gymnasium, transport, library etc as much as possible within available resources.
  • To promote carers involvement in the therapies provided for the service user.
  • To be aware of the stock system of equipment in the department while seeking guidance from the therapist when issuing equipment for service users use.
  • To maintain and produce communication books for service users.
