Job summary

CLCH provides a Consultant Led Specialist Dental Service offering complex Tier 3 Periodontal treatment undertaken under local anaesthesia in a community-based setting within the structure of a larger care pathway.

The work is undertaken from within a state-of-the-art unit based in the community from Soho Health Centre, Westminster.The number of sites offering Specialist Periodontal care within the service may expand in the future.

The post holder will be expected to provide senior line management to the Periodontal team and support and work closely with clinicians from other dental specialties as well as other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high-quality healthcare to patients.

Integral to these responsibilities is the following:

The provision of a high-quality clinical service.

Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.

The post holder will be involved with strategic planning for the service within the challenging political environment and service needs. In addition, the post holder will be required to play an active role within Service Management and the Clinical Governance Framework within CLCH, while also having a strong commitment to teaching, education and training. They will be expected to participate in Personal Development Planning through the pre-existing robust Appraisal and Clinical Supervision system, as well as supporting peer review.

Main duties of the job

To work together with the other colleagues to provide a service for Specialist Periodontology.

This includes all aspects of postgraduate training, treatment and relevant line management of colleagues.

Provide clinical supervision of junior staff, postgraduate students or as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.

Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.

Contribute to departmental or trust research interests.

Contribute to the audit programmes, clinical governance programs and learning from complaints, compliments and incidents.

Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the department's/ Division's Business Plan. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and providing a value for money service.

Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service.

Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty.

Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.
