Highly Specialist Physiotherapist - Team Lead

Job summary

This role involves working as the team lead whilst supporting the service lead for the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service at Edgware Community Hospital. As one of the senior staff of the Physiotherapy Department providing services to a multicultural and diverse population, to be responsible for the local management, service development and delivery of a very high standard of physiotherapy care to patients at Edgware Community Hospital. This will be to patients with musculoskeletal problems as outpatients attending outpatient and GP facilities within the community of the London Borough of Barnet within Central London Community Health Care Trust (CLCH).

Main duties of the job

To assist in the responsibility for operational management of the team, allocating and organising the work of all staff to meet service priorities.

To be responsible for ensuring effective and efficient use of time with patients and for administrative duties

To assist the service lead to manage the delegated budget for own service. Together with the service lead to identify cost pressures to the Trust, monitoring and controlling expenditure.

To optimise the effective and efficient use of clinical and organisational skills and resources to ensure that service is highly responsive to clinical and local service priorities and needs. This includes waiting list management for any outpatient/outreach services provided by self or team.

With service lead to performance manage staff within own service and, where appropriate, evaluating and dealing with competency issues as required.

Ensure that all staff are fully inducted into own service including the safe and competent use of all equipment used, through teaching and supervision of practice.

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • BSc Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • Evidence of continuous professional and personal development
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council

Desirable

  • Member of a specialist group
  • CSP membership

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in MSK and related fields.
  • Active member of multi-disciplinary team
  • Supervision & training of junior staff & students.
  • Experience in managing provision of physiotherapy for MSK.
  • Experience of working in an outpatient department
  • Experience of working within NHS environment
  • Experience of working with a wide range of patient conditions
  • Research project carried out at undergraduate level
  • Experience of planning and delivering clinical supervision / mentoring to peers and less experienced physiotherapists

Desirable

  • Experience of assisting in projects within team
  • Experience at Band 6 level
  • Pain Management experience and knowledge

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Effective oral, listening and written communication skills in order to successfully assess and treat patients and manage their outcomes
  • Effective physiotherapy manual skills to assess and treat patients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions.
  • Awareness of NHS & Trust systems, policies, procedures & current changes.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NICE guidelines and the NSF's
  • Presentation skills to lead and teach in-service training sessions
  • Knowledge of audit & outcome measurement.
  • IT literacy for Microsoft Office
