Job summary

We are seeking an experienced, innovative and passionate SLT to join the Early Years SLT team working with a range of children with speech language and communication needs including those with complex needs and social communication differences within the Inner London boroughs.

The post holder will work in partnership with parents/carers, other members of the multi-disciplinary team and nurseries/schools to deliver a high-quality service to children with complex needs. As well as being experienced in delivering a range of communication interventions (including AAC), the post holder should have knowledge and skills in supporting children with complex needs and social communication differences. The role will include working within the child development service for 2 days a week, which will include developing the universal and targeted offer for children with complex needs.

Main duties of the job

To have specialist knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis and interventions for children with complex Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) including administering comprehensive formal and informal assessments, making differential diagnoses based on assessment findings and developing and delivering evidence-based intervention programmes

To monitor and review the progress of children on the caseload and facilitate the development or modification of packages of care/targets as appropriate using evaluation/outcome measurement tools.

To be accountable for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate

To have well developed specialist skills in a specialist area of SLCN within the broad range of speech, language and communication needs encountered within the caseload of preschool aged children

To provide supervision and peer review support to less experienced colleagues, Speech & Language Therapy assistants and Speech & Language Therapy students, and if required, Band 5 Speech & Language Therapists.

  • Knowledge of alternative and augmentative communication systems.
