Job summary

Are you a Dietitian who enjoys working with children and families? We have an exciting opportunity for you to develop your paediatric skills in a community dietetic role.

This full time permanent position has a busy paediatric caseload including outpatient clinics, special schools and joint domiciliary visits. The caseload includes conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, allergies, faltering growth, nutrition support and obesity. The service works collaboratively with the Multidisciplinary Child Development Team (includes Consultant Paediatricians & paediatric therapists & Specialist Children's Nurses).

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have post-graduate clinical experience (including some experience working with children), strong organisational skills and be able to work independently. Communicating evidence-based dietetic advice in an effective manner (tailored to the needs of each child & family) is a key component of this post.

Job responsibilities

CLINICAL DUTIES

  • To provide therapeutic dietary advice to paediatric patients with nutrition related diseases, their carers and other health professionals regarding the management and care of their diagnosis in Primary Care.

  • To demonstrate good negotiation skills, across a range of issues, with service users and professional teams (including multidisciplinary review sessions).

  • To regard the health and well-being of the child with the utmost importance and to be able to plan appropriate and effective nutrition interventions for children of all ages.

  • To understand the differing physiological and psychological needs of children of all ages and target nutrition interventions appropriately.

  • To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice in providing appropriate interventions and evaluation of outcomes.

  • To demonstrate empathy with children, their carers/families and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers exist eg. where English is not the first language, or where hearing is impaired or people with disabilities and learning disabilities.

  • To empower, facilitate and agree dietary and lifestyle modifications to improve health outcomes.
