Job summary

We have a part time 0.2 WTE Band 7 post for Optometrist with previous clinical experience

We are looking for somebody with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a positive and innovative approach to service development and a commitment to working within a multi-disciplinary team

Band 7 Optometrist post provides an exciting opportunity to work in CLCH community Paediatric Eye Service in the Borough of Barnet.

The post holder will be a member of the dynamic multi-disciplinary Orthoptic/Optometrist team, working with a mixed caseload of clients

Main duties of the job

This will include assisting in running Orthoptic clinics in CLCH community clinics

Applicants should have 1-2 years' experience

You will be responsible for the assessment and management of children

You will be required to communicate complex needs and provide training to junior staff.

You should have good organisational skills, a commitment to multi-disciplinary working and an understanding of working alongside services

Job responsibilities

  • To independently assess paediatric referrals (ages ranging from babies of a few months to 16 years including special needs patients) in collaboration with an Orthoptist / Ophthalmology colleague in order to reach an ophthalmic diagnosis and to determine a clinical management plan
  • To prescribe spectacles if appropriate and advise child, patient, parent /carer on their use.
  • To discuss the diagnosis, prognosis, and management plan with patient / parent / carer. To describe and record clinical data in the medical records and decide on any necessity for referral for medical opinion.
  • To provide a report for the patients GP,
