Job summary

This Is a dual responsibility post that combines a Senior Medical Leadership role in the Trust as Associate Medical Director, Children and Families and clinical sessional commitment as a Consultant Paediatrician in Community Child Health.

Main duties of the job

The trustwide Associate Medical Director role is for 2 PAs per week. Within the role the successful candidate will provide leadership and direction to specific Trust Children's Services with a particular focus on providing high quality, safe, well-governed, productive, and cost-effective services which support the trust in delivering its strategic objectives.

The clinical role is within our Outer North West Division, within the Brent Community Paediatric team. The main purpose of this role is to provide a range of community based medical health services for Children and Young People who are registered with a Brent GP and safeguarding medical assessments for children who are referred by Brent Local Authority.

The role could potentially include PAs for the Medical Advisor for Adoption - this can be negotiated depending on interest and experience and the number of PAs the successful candidate is employed for. There is also the potential to adjust the job plan to include sessions for Named Doctor for Safeguarding should this be of particular interest for applicants.

The clinical role can be 2-8 PAs per week. We welcome part-time applicants as the job plan can be configured according to applicant experience and interest within the scope of the clinical requirements of the service.

In conjunction with the Medical Directorate leadership team you will lead and direct your relevant sites/clinical directorate in delivering the priorities, goals and objectives agreed with the Divisional Directors.

You will work closely with Divisional Clinical Leads leadership teams, valuing good performance, addressing poor performance, and enabling staff to identify concerns and ensure that these are resolved. You will provide support to all staff, fostering a culture which will develop strong and effective clinical leadership.

You will model the attitudes and behaviours of a senior clinical leader in accordance with the values of the Trust, to improve health and reduce health inequalities, and to promote equalities among both staff and patients.

Consultant Paediatrician in Community Child Health (2-8PAs)

You will independently manage a caseload of new and review CYP and provide a CYP centred service in the areas of child development, neurodisability, social communication assessments for children under 5 years and statutory assessments of Special Education Needs (EHCP Needs assessments).

You will take an active role, together with colleagues, in seeing CYP where there are child protection concerns. This includes all aspects of child abuse including sexual abuse and neglect. You will undertake safeguarding medical assessments for CYP who are referred by Brent Local Authority and share the child protection medical on call rota with colleagues during working hours of Mon-Fri, 9-5pm.

Depending on experience and interest, you may be assigned the role of Medical Advisor for Adoption (approx. 9.5 PA / month). Other lead roles are available and can be discussed depending on experience, interest and clinical needs within the service and the job plan adjusted accordingly.

You will work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service of the highest standard and participate in the SpR teaching and induction programmes.

Essential

  • MBBS, MRCPCH, Completed Postgraduate Medical Training (CCT in the relevant specialty)
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • On the GMC specialist register
  • Capable to work at Consultant level in Community Child Health
  • Current and full registration with the appropriate professional body
  • Satisfactory Appraisal within the last 12 months (or within the most recent 12 months of work, if currently on a career break)
  • A positive recommendation for revalidation where appropriate
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or other higher degree
