Job summary

Specialist Occupational Therapist - Learning Disabilities B6 - Band 6 - Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the established CLCH Adult Learning Disability Service spanning the London boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster. The multidisciplinary health service works within an integrated health and social care setting across many sites.

The successful applicant will hold a clinical caseload and be expected to carry out assessment and treatment to help address the functional needs of people with LD within the clinical, community and domiciliary setting.

The post holder will report to the Highly Specialist Occupational Therapy Lead and work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to continually develop the service and maintain close working relationships with partners across health and social care.

Main duties of the job

We require an organised, flexible and approachable OT who can demonstrate good communication and team-working skills.

Experience working within the paediatric, neuro-disability or mental health setting(s) would be an advantage.

The ability to work autonomously in a multidisciplinary Learning Disability team, work co-operatively with partners and contribute to the service development is essential.

The post holder will have access to regular supervision from an experienced Band 7 therapist, as well as support from the wider CLCH Learning Disabilities Team.

Job responsibilities

  • Working as an autonomous practitioner to undertake specialist Occupational Therapy Evidenced based treatments following the Occupational Therapy process through: Applying relevant Occupational Therapy models to practice, carrying out specialist assessments, interpreting information gathered, devising and implementing therapy and evaluating its effectiveness.
  • To participate in the Multi-Disciplinary Team Core Assessment Process. Performing initial assessments for service users referred to the learning disability service and communicating relevant assessment details and recommendations across agencies and make appropriate onward referrals.
  • To be responsible for gaining informed consent for assessment and treatment interventions and to follow legal and professional guidelines in circumstances where clients do not have capacity to provide informed consent.
  • To keep and maintain detailed, accurate and contemporary patient treatment records in line with RCOT, HCPC and CLCH guidelines/standards
  • To work closely with the Therapy, Social Care and Nursing staff in the same field to provide a comprehensive, seamless service to Learning Disability clients.
  • To lead in the education and training of Service provider staff and carers and family in meeting the specialist functional needs of individual clients. To undertake this training in collaboration with other team members when appropriate.
