Job summary

We have opportunities for Associate Specialist Doctor with interest in Community rehab or frailty to join our Inpatient Rehabilitation Multi-disciplinary Teams at Finchley Community Hospital or Edgware Community Hospitals. Both the sites have good access to local transport and easy parking facilities.

The primary role of the Jade, Marjorie Warren Rehab Wards and Adams Ward is to maximise, through rehabilitation, the health, wellbeing and independence of patients following a period of illness or trauma and to support patients to return to maximum independence to enable service users to resume community living. The ward also admits patients who need a period of time non-weight-bearing, as they are not safe to be discharged.

As the Associate Specialist Doctor, you will have the clinical responsibility for all patients admitted to the ward and lead the team in patient safety and patient experience. Your role will be to care for patients admitted to the ward, including assessing and treating acute illness, and managing long term conditions.

The service benefits from the availability of x-ray and Royal Free Trust hospital laboratory facilities 7 days/week.

Main duties of the job

We have dedicated Multi-Disciplinary Teams consisting of Ward Consultant, Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Dietician, Speech therapist, Pharmacist, Activities Coordinators, Senior Care Assistants, Rehab Support Workers and Care assistants. The aim is to support patients to regain function, confidence, self-respect and much more.

You will be supported by a friendly team of experienced Nurses, Therapists, Ward Manager, Matron and Divisional Medical Director to develop the service. Normal working hours will be 9-5, Monday to Friday, unless alternative agreements made. In surge times weekend cover will be sought.

  • To manage the medical care of patients referred to the ward for rehabilitation. The doctor will be the only medic resident on the ward there are Consultant reviews twice weekly (Ward round and MDT) and Consultant advice is available by phone.
  • Manage any medical deterioration on the ward as appropriate and with the advice of the ward Consultant. (Consultant is based off-site). Patients are required to be deemed Medically Optimised to be transferred for rehabilitation, but due to Frailty and comorbidities may require medical input during their rehabilitation admission. Treatment options depend on severity of issue and include both management on the ward and transfer of care to acute hospital ward/hospice.
  • To proactively work to prevent unnecessary admission/readmission to an acute hospital including daily review of patients on the ward.
