Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Operational Resilience and Support Services team as our new Senior Medical Devices Coordinator

You will be responsible for ensuring CLCH NHS Trust delivers an effective medical device service to our clinical staff.

You and the team will be responsible for developing and implementing a Trust-wide management system for medical devices. Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • working with service leads to ensure cost effective procurement of devices
  • ensuring the contractual obligations of our medical devices contractors are met
  • ensuring our medical devices inventory is accurate and up to date via regular audit

Main duties of the job

The Medical Devices Team provides a Trust-wide service within Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust (CLCH). The post-holder will work closely with the Medical Devices Manager and the Head of Operational Resilience to lead an effective medical device service across community services in several London boroughs and in Hertfordshire County.

The post holder will lead effective medical devices management by carrying out, but not limited to the following:

  • ensuring user engagement with contractors and maintenance schedules
  • assurance audits
  • developing training programmes for staff and users
  • develop medical devices replacement programmes
  • engage with contractors and implement high value contracts
  • provide expertise on device replacement programmes

The post holder will also be required to lead on Trust wide medical devices projects and support the management of trust wide medical devices contracts.

  • To lead an effective Trust-wide management system for medical devices, ensuring procurement, installation, training, maintenance, decontamination, timely replacement and decommissioning are carried out in accordance with best practice, manufacturers instructions and national guidance, to ensure the safe use of every medical device.
  • To prepare specific reports for the Medical Devices Group and, when applicable, other meetings such as the Patient Safety and Risk Group, NICE Core Group, Health and Safety Group, Modelling the Way, Capital Investment Group, Quality Committee and the Resuscitation and Mortality Group, as directed by the Medical Devices Manager, on the planned programme of medical device management activity within the
  • To work with the Medical Devices Manager to ensure accuracy of the Trust-wide medical devices database, to provide an inventory of medical devices and provide staff with all relevant servicing history on
  • To work with the Medical Devices Manager to ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission and MHRA requirements for medical device
  • To monitor the performance of the servicing contractor across the Trust, under the direction of the Medical Devices Manager, ensuring that they meet all relevant legal and technical requirements, as well as all contractual performance indicators, e.g. for speed of breakdown response, and that they keep, and produce when requested, accurate records of all work
  • To build relationships and work collaboratively across divisions and with external partners to promote patient safety and reduce risk in the management of medical devices and patient
  • To lead the mobilisation of new services as CLCH wins new contracts to ensure that systems for medical devices management are adequate and that risk is minimised and lead the demobilisation of existing CLCH services to ensure medical devices are managed correctly and safely during the transfer of
  • To lead on the implmentation of the Trusts Point of Care Testing devices (POCT) policy
  • To ensure contractors and services that loan equipment to CLCH patients, which may at times be used by CLCH staff, adhere to best practice in the management and servicing of that
  • To implement systems so that staff using medical devices owned by other bodies, e.g. GPs or Acute Trusts, understand their responsibilities to ensure that the equipment is safe for
  • To organise workload around committee reporting schedules and the need to deliver the medical devices work programme to agreed milestones throughout the year, ensuring clinical risks that arise are also managed
  • To lead in coordinating the work of the Medical Devices Group and to contribute to other working groups where medical devices input is required, and as directed, for example Health and Safety
  • To work with the Medical Devices Manager to analyse Trust expenditure on medical device purchase, maintenance and training, and develop a proactive medical devices replacement programme, ensuring value for money and economies of scale wherever
  • To ensure good stewardship of Trust resources through the review of products and equipment; to demonstrate the productivity of the service; to promote financial awareness amongst
  • To respond appropriately and promptly in investigating any complaints about external servicing
  • To lead on one off Trust-wide initiatives, to ensure that medical devices are considered.
