Job summary

We are seeking enthusiastic people with a positive attitude and commitment to providing excellent care and therapy support to our patients.

Maximising Independence is our community therapy service comprising occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, support workers and administrators. It provides urgent and routine therapy to people over 16 years of age, helping them to regain their independence following illness or injury, and supporting them to manage long term health conditions.

We have a full time Band 4 post, within our Maximizing Independence Team. We are looking for a skilled, motivated and enthusiastic team player who would like to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team in this vibrant area of London, based near Battersea Park.

This post offers variety and opportunity to develop your skills in health care provision and rehabilitation, as well as joint working with a range of professionals and opportunities to contribute to service development. You will need to have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, good IT skills in order to access and add to our electronic clinical record system.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be able to operate as a lone worker out in the community with the ability to travel across Wandsworth Borough (and surrounds) in an efficient manner to patient visits ideally through access to your own transport.

Working with a wide range of client groups including patients with dementia, COPD, complex Parkinson's, long term stroke and complex long term conditions, this post is varied and diverse.

Successful post holders must be able to work 37.5 hours across 7 days per week and may be asked to work 'early' and 'late' shifts covering operating hours of 7.30am and 6pm where the service requires it. A commitment to personal and service development is essential.

The apprentice will be working towards the following job description, it is expected that the level of responsibility under each of the following duties will increase throughout the trainees/apprentice time on the degree programme.The apprentice should be expected to fulfil the full role and responsibilities of the job description on the completion of the degree programme.Patient and Clinical Care Responsibilities - Patient Care Attain competencies for the safe use of all equipment and techniques before use. To be responsible for organising and prioritising designated caseload, with support of a senior occupational therapist. Applies evidence based knowledge and clinical reasoning to undertake routine and complex (with supervision) clinical assessment, identifying patient needs, treatment aims and goals in collaboration with the individual patient/parent and the MDT. Assessment and treatment may include therapeutic handling / hoisting, positioning patient in a wheelchair/armchair and treatment planning in a busy and unpredictable environment.
