Job summary

The Barnet Respiratory COPD service currently has vacancy for Respiratory Nurse Specialist.

The service is located within the London Borough Barnet as part of the wider CLCH NHS community trust and delivers a respiratory remit within the Barnet community for adult COPD patients alongside other provisions as detailed:

  • Pulmonary rehabilitation programme at three locations which incorporates Heart Failure patients within the programme.
  • Hospital at Home intervention service for management of COPD exacerbations.
  • Home oxygen assessment and review (HOOF B) adult service
  • Community Respiratory COPD Outpatient clinics - Consultant, Nursing & AHP lead
  • Domiciliary home visits
  • Spirometry service

Successful applicants can expect to benefit from a wealth of opportunity, development and advancement in their respiratory care practise as they join a team of Lead clinical & operational physiotherapist, senior specialist physiotherapists, respiratory nurses and respiratory consultants working on a sessional basis.

Main duties of the job

The Barnet Respiratory COPD service is part of the wider Intergrated long term conditions business unit and is one of several geographically located respiratory services within the wider CLCH organisation.

It is an expectation that applicants already possess a background in respiratory care alongside a commitment to team working and development. Due to the nature of the post a car owner and driver is required.

  • To work within a multidisciplinary respiratory team to deliver community respiratory service in Barnet with the aim of reducing hospital admissions and length of stay through providing COPD hospital at home (early supported discharge & admission avoidance).
  • To take a lead role in the assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who have highly complex physical, psychological and social needs and work as an autonomous practitioner in delivering pulmonary rehabilitation, home oxygen assessment and follow-up, home visits and hospital at home.
  • Work collaboratively with the acute hospitals to ensure safe discharge of COPD patients and to improve the quality of care through the implementation of a COPD discharge bundle.
