We are looking for two enthusiastic and conscientious Locum Speciality Dentists to join our professional and supportive team in Oral Surgery at the Birmingham Dental Hospital. These posts are 12-month locum contracts to cover maternity leave.
The successful candidates will work under the direction of the Consultants in Oral Surgery and will undertake all aspects of oral surgery dental care as well as providing an emergency dental service which is also based at the hospital. Oral Surgery is a large team comprising of Consultants, Specialist Dentists, Speciality Dentists, Core Trainees and Dental Registrars. The team also includes dedicated dental nurses and administrative support.
The post holders are expected to be professional, caring and have excellent clinical skills. They should deliver care that is centred on the patient and carer and in line with latest guidance. They will have outstanding communication skills and the ability to present ideas to both patients and the team.
Main duties of the job
- Clinical duties within the Oral Surgery and Urgent Care Department involve outpatient and day- case care of patients at the Birmingham Dental Hospital. The post holder is clinically and managerially responsible to the Head of Service in Oral Surgery.
- These duties involve all aspects of outpatient oral surgery, including consultation clinics and demand driven sessions. The timetable includes commitments to surgical activity utilising local anaesthesia, sedation and general anaesthetic techniques. The successful applicant must be prepared to work in all areas within Oral Surgery and Urgent Care.
- Discharge of clinical duties will be in accordance with Trust Policies and Procedures.
- Exceptionally, the post holder is expected to perform additional duties during occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- Exceptionally, the post holder needs to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Departmental administration and routine correspondence with referring Practitioners is required, for which secretarial support is available.
- Full participation in hospital/departmental Quality Assurance, Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance programmes is a requirement of the post.
