Job summary

We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to the Consultants and their teams based at West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre. Full on the job training and support will be provided.

Our medical secretaries provide a highly valued service to the clinical teams; you will need to have experience working as a secretary or administrator, preferably within a healthcare environment, along with Ampsar or equivalent medical terminology qualification, accurate audio-typing, effective IT, and organisation and administrative skills . You should be a team-player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You should have a good telephone manner with good interpersonal skills and a flexible approach to duties, be friendly and helpful, and able to prioritise and organise your own workload. You need to be comfortable working in a changing environment and be able to retain your focus on providing an excellent service.

This is a full time position, notionally working Monday - Friday 9-5.

Main duties of the job

Provide a comprehensive medical secretarial service ensuring performance standards are adhered to, using Microsoft Word packages including, typing clinic assessments, reports, discharge summaries and other relevant confidential correspondence dealing with complex medical terminology, digital dictation (Speech Exec system) and audio transcription.

Provide of a full secretarial support to staff and teams working within the service and contribute to completing the pooled typing to ensure work is complete timely and within required timescales.

Liaise with appropriate internal or external staff to arrange clinical investigations or procedures. Ensure any results required are available and escalate any issues to avoid delays in the patient pathway.

Plan and organise meetings with colleagues or external agencies.

Focal point for enquiries in person and telephone calls.

Co-ordinate visits from various health professionals/students to West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre.
