Nursing Associate
The Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA)is a standalone and regulated role for nursing. It is designed to bridge the gap between healthcare assistants and registered nurses.
As a TNA you will provide care for people of all ages and from different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs across all health and care settings. So you will be taught how to provide care to people who have mental, physical, cognitive and behavioural care needs, those living with dementia, the elderly and for people at the end of their life. Accordingly you will be taught how to care for people in their own home, in the community or hospital or in any health care settings where their needs are supported and managed.
Main duties of the job
Training
The Nursing Associate Apprenticeship is a work-based level 5 blended learning Programme. Therefore you will attend University one day per week and undertake clinical placements. Whilst working in an allocated work-base setting experience will be gained in the four fields of nursing, by completing five alternative block placements over two years. External placements will involve travel across BCHC and neighbouring Trusts, in order to meet the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements.
On successful completion of the course and registration with the NMC you can apply for a Registered Nursing Associate post in BCHC.

- NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care plus written paper /essay set by Birmingham City University (1500 words)
- English GCSE A-C (grade 4 & above) or equivalent e.g. functional skills level 2
- Mathematics GCSE A-C (grade 4 & above) or equivalent e.g. functional skills level 2
- Demonstrate the ability to study at level 5 diploma of Higher Education
- Availability to work a minimum of 30hrs
- Able to meet attendance, placement and travel requirements of the course
- Internal candidates must submit a copy of the secondment agreement signed by your line manager & divisional director of Nursing & therapies prior to interview
