Job summary

This is a Consultant Position based at Birmingham Dental Hospital within the Department of Oral Medicine with a close working relationship with the University of Birmingham School Of Dentistry.

The new Consultant will join an enthusiastic and committed team in an expanding department. There will be a teaching commitment, both in the support of pre-specialty and specialty training within the Hospital together with supporting the delivery of the undergraduate Oral Medicine programme of the University of Birmingham School Of Dentistry.

Main duties of the job

The appointment will be as a Consultant in Oral Medicine on a whole or part time basis, by agreement, under the employment of the BirminghamCommunity Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will be based at Birmingham Dental Hospital and will provide acomprehensive diagnostic, treatment and advisory service for patients referred from primary dental care practitioners, general medicalpractitioners and consultant colleagues in other medical and dental specialties or who may be self-referred as attendees to the designateddemand driven service of the Dental Hospital.

The Birmingham Dental Hospital is an undergraduate dental teaching hospital that shares purpose built accommodation with the School of Dentistry of the University of Birmingham. It is sited in a new purpose built building at Pebble Mill in Edgbaston. The Dental Hospital provides an outpatient and day case service with approximately 130,000 patient attendances per annum.

Essential

  • Holding or eligible for full registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) of the United Kingdom.
  • On the GDC Oral Medicine Specialist List or eligible for inclusion on this within six months of the interview date (e.g. via a Certificate of Completion of Specialty Training or a successful GDC assessed application).

Desirable

  • Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship exit examination in Oral Medicine or equivalent.
  • Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, MJDF or equivalent.
  • Eligible for or holding full registration with the UK General Medical Council (GMC).

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of post graduate and undergraduate teaching in Oral medicine or allied subjects.

Desirable

  • Teaching skills qualification such as FHEA or PGCert in medical education.
