We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and compassionate Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and forward thinking community team, working as an integral part of our management team.

The SLT service is working through a process of system change to build an integrated system with our partners, based on the Balanced System model, across the city of Birmingham primed to launch in September 2023

We are working in localities developing local networks in order to build skills in the wider workforce and increase the impact of our interventions. The successful candidate will be working in Northwest locality within Birmingham.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for Management of a team of clinical staff comprising of bands 4 to 7. This could be up to 22 members of staff depending on current team configuration

Support the Professional Clinical Leads and Service Operational Manager in the development and implementation of an appropriate training programme for members of the team across the locality, using information from appraisals and personal development plans

The post holder will also work as a highly skilled practitioner accountable for their own clinical work.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree Qualification relevant to the clinical profession - Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy/Speech and Language Therapy, plus relevant short specialist courses.
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience working as a therapist with children
  • Significant experience working in the relevant specialist clinical area
  • Relevant experience of working in community settings and with diverse populations, including working with interpreters
  • Relevant experience of managing, leading or coordinating a team or project

Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the principles of Equality and Diversity in relation to both staff and service users
  • Understanding of the values and vision of the Trust
  • Knowledge of the SEND, local authority and NHS drivers and challenges as they affect and impact on service delivery
  • Awareness of recent clinical developments and professional issues.
  • Proven ability to work independently and to manage the conflicting demands of a clinical and managerial workload
  • Proven ability to liaise and work effectively with other professionals and agencies
  • Strong negotiating skills

  • Knowledge of HR policies relevant to the support and management of staff
