Lincolnshire's Stroke Service is a dynamic, continuously developing service. As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within the Lincolnshire Stroke Service, you will provide high quality stroke rehabilitation to patients in community settings across Sleaford and Boston areas. If you are a team player with a special interest in the area of stroke, look no further, we are now looking to recruit to this exciting post. This post would suit an experienced Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist wishing to specialise in stroke at band 6. You would be supported and mentored by your SLT band 7 and band 6 colleagues. We would also consider recruiting to band 5 as a role to develop into band 6. Specific criteria would be set and once acheived the transition to band 6 can be made.
Main duties of the job
You will deliver high quality patient centred care and rehabilitation in the community to people who have recently experienced a stroke. You will assess and manage communication and swallowing impairments, devise therapy care plans suitable for assistants and participate in service development. You will be supported to further your dysphagia skills.
You will work with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) of specialist Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Neuropsychology, Assistant Practitioners and Rehabilitation Assistants. Experience of MDT, working with stroke and skills in dysphagia are a key aspect of this role. There may be some requirement to support in acute Stroke Units in the county.
Your post will require the ability to travel across the beautiful, peaceful countryside of Lincolnshire. 'Hybrid' working (working from home and from base/patients' homes) has become a familiar part of working life making good use of digital solutions including frequent use of 'Microsoft Teams' and video consultations.
This post predominantly covers the South of the county. To meet the needs of the service, you will be required to work flexibly which could include weekend working.

The Stroke Service has good links with the Adult Community SLT service for networking and CPD opportunities. Through this, you will have access to support from other clinical specialists e.g. ENT/head and neck, ALD and a well-established AAC service.
It is an exciting time to work in stroke rehabilitation in Lincolnshire, we are working towards the recently published Integrated Community Stroke Service model from NHSE. There are many innovative areas of service development happening, all with the aim of improving and shaping the future of the stroke service for patients to be 'fit for our own families', building on a model that works well and is well-respected within the organisation.
