Hertfordshire Musculoskeletal Service is currently looking for a skilled and innovative highly specialised Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our friendly and experienced Hand Therapy team.
This is an exciting opportunity to utilise your specialist expertise and further develop clinical and leadership skills. We have a commitment to clinical quality and ensure regular supervision and CPD opportunities.You will be working within the Hand Therapy team which form part of the integrated community MSK Services in the trust working alongside MSK Physiotherapy , the ACTIVATE for CFS and Persistent Pain team and the MSK Clinical , Assessment and Treatment Service (MSKCATS)The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills , take a lead role in clinical delivery and provide a key focus for Hand Therapy clinical expertise.
Main duties of the job
The Hand Therapy team work within a busy Plastics Unit in East and North Hertfordshire, carrying a varied hands caseload. They receive referrals from Plastics, Orthopaedics and GP's, to provide a Hands and Plastics Service to elective, trauma and MSK hands patients.
Working with the Hand Therapy team lead you will provide advanced clinical expertise across the service area, and as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team promote excellent standards of care to Hand Therapy patients.

- To work autonomously to provide a comprehensive advanced assessment, diagnostic, treatments and management of patients with complex needs within the specialist hand therapy and plasticscohort and maintain appropriate treatment plans, records, and data collection.
- To provide advanced experience, knowledge within the hand therapy and plastics cohort within specialist musculoskeletal rehabilitation and must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- To provide advanced clinical expertise across the service area, participating in the development of professional competences and participation in professional appraisal systems.
To be an expert resource for patients and to promote and facilitate self-management principles in appropriate patients
To work in collaboration with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to promote excellent standards of care to patients in line with any local or National principles/guidelines
To deliver evidenced based advanced education programmes to professionals, patients and their carers for Hand Therapy across Hertfordshire as required by encouraging independence and self-management.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- HCPC Registered Practitioner
- BSc in Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy or equivalent
- Evidence of advanced clinical continuing professional development
- Specific post graduate study in Hand therapy to Masters level or equivalent
- Significant previous relevant MSK clinical experience
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Knowledge and experience of a wide range of approaches for the management of patients within this specialist clinical area including exercise prescription, activity analysis , functional rehabilitation, splinting and scar management
- Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning and the management of complex hand rehabilitation
- High level of knowledge and understanding of NHS policy
- Intellectual flexibility to be able to work between strategic and operational priorities
- Experience of delivering a range of Hand Rehabilitation Programmes
- Evidence of active involvement in service development & contribution to change within the workplace
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written, including the ability to liaise and negotiate
- Able to analyse and interpret complex data
