Job summary

Band 2/3 Healthcare Assistant required for Herts and Essex Hospital

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team. You will be working alongside our trained nursing and therapy staff assisting them in the day to day care and management of our patients to ensure they receive safe, high quality nursing care in Herts and Essex Hospital, Bishop Stortford.

We are inviting individuals to apply into a band 2 HCA role. We are able to offer support and guidance with completing a care certificate, on completion of this there will be an option to progress to a band 3 HCA role on successful completion of your Hertfordshire Community Trust Band 3 HCA competencies associated with the job role.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake personal care duties, e.g bathing, toileting, dressing, supoort with meals and assisting patients with their app
  • Ensure that the patients bed space is clean, tidy, and accessible and that the person has what they need within easy reach.

  • Practice safe standards of care to patients following Trust guidelines and policies and be able to concentrate for periods throughout the day with occasional interruptions.
  • Ensure care is given in accordance with the infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to updating patient records e.g. by recording basic patient information such as fluid balance (intake and output) and nutrition, height, weight and age.
  • Develop the skills to actively facilitate self-care and independence with patients.
  • Ensure equipment and stores are well maintained, taking appropriate action if the equipment is faulty.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.

To progress to a band 3:

  • To perform patient observations including: heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, respirations, blood glucose monitoring and GCS.
  • Collecting and testing urine samples
  • Wound swaps, wound observations, and simple wound dressings.
  • Removal of peripheral cannula urinalysis.
