Job summary

The Minor Injuries Unit at Cheshunt Community Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a part time Band 3 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to join us. The post holder must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate collaborative working.

The EMT role is to work alongside the nurse/care practitioners to aid the provision of patient care, responding to requests in a timely manner, whilst ensuring protocols and procedures are followed. Encouraging and supporting families, individuals and groups to address issues thataffect their social and health well-being., along with acting as chaperone, and to safeguard children and adults.

The service operates 8am - 8pm 7 days a week.

Main duties of the job

To assist the clinical and administrative teams to deliver and maintain high standards of care and meet the needs of the patients who use the Minor Injuries Unit., undertaking agreed procedures like smoking, alcohol, height, weight, urinalysis, venipuncture, blood pressure checks, plastering and wound care - list not exhaustive.

In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High-Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary subject to a minimum payment of £1,136 (pro rata where applicable).

A full valid driving licence and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

To assist the clinical and administrative teams to deliver and maintain high standards of care and meet the needs of the patients who use the Minor Injuries Unit.Undertake agreed procedures like smoking, alcohol, height, weight, urinalysis, venipuncture, blood pressure checks, plastering and wound care - list not exhaustive.Assisting other health care professional in minor surgery and also supporting anxious and distressed patients,Working within all applicable practice procedural guidelines and policies like infection control, chaperoning.Promote and use evidence-based practice to support the nurses to provide clinically effective care.Ensure that the wellbeing of children/ families and vulnerable adults is safeguarded in accordance with national and local policies and procedures.Be aware of other resources outside the service that may be used to supplement this information.Have a high standard of computer skills to enable correct data management.Provide health promotion advice on an individual basis and encourage patient self-management of health and well-being.Provide necessary information relating to a patients health, injury or illness.Recognise patients presenting with mental health needs in accordance with the National Service Framework (NSF) for Mental Health and report to nursing team.Support the clinicians with the treatment of patients according to an agreed clinical inclusion criteria, which will involve the following clinical activities:o Plastering of broken limbso General acute wound management; including suturing and other means of closureo Assist in minor procedures.o Assist in the manipulation and reductions of minor digital dislocationso Basic life support skills including anaphylaxis and AED.Strategic ManagementAssisting in special and seasonal projects as requestedEncouraging and supporting families, individuals and groups to address issues that affecttheir social and health well-being.Working cooperatively as part of a team to achieve the goals and objectives of the health care services and targets of the commissioners and providers.Assist in formulating and executing action plans.Be involved in evaluating to what degree action plans have been successful and making changes when desired results are not being produced.Developing and maintaining the health promotion material.Contributing to develop, monitor, and evaluate the care delivered by the health care team.Making recommendations to raise the standards of service and practice delivery.Actively participating in practice and clinical meetings.Developing own practice and knowledge to meet changes and objectives in service.Maintaining and ordering clinical supplies.Making effective use of IT system to ensure the accurate and consistent entering of data of patients.Ensuring to collect and maintain statistical information needed for ad hoc and regular reports.Making effective utilisation of training to update skills and knowledge.Promoting effective relationships and communication within the health care team.Work in a collaborative manner with other agencies to ensure seamless service delivery for patients.Promote latest research-based practice in line with clinical governance.Ensure own clinical competence and updating through ongoing professional development.Keep professionally updated and be responsible for addressing any unmet personal mandatory training needs.Working within the existing structure, to participate in the development, scrutiny, implementation, monitoring, updating and evaluation of evidence-based research.Familiarise with policies/protocols/guidanceProvide teaching, guidance, supervision, and support for students acting as a resource, advisor and role model to colleagues in the delivery of care.Responsible for ensuring the environment is safe, maintained and where needed improved.
