We are seeking a full-time Band 5 Speech & Language Therapists to work in our acute stroke team within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service in East & North Hertfordshire. Part-time working and job sharing will be considered on application. This role offers excellent opportunities for newly qualified or experienced Band 5s to develop NQP competencies and dysphagia competencies to extend and enhance their clinical skills.

A full valid driving licence and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Main duties of the job

As part of our acute stroke team, the post-holder will be responsible for the assessment and management of adults with acquired communication, speech, language or eating and drinking disorders under the supervision of the senior Speech and Language Therapist.

The Speech and Language Therapy Service in East & North Hertfordshire is a fully integrated acute and community service covering community clinics, inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation and the Acute and Stroke teams based at the Lister Hospital. The size of the service offers frequent opportunities for gaining clinical skills in other areas and for career progression.

The post-holder will join a dedicated, supportive and friendly Speech and Language Therapy team where they can complete their newly qualified practitioner competencies and extend their knowledge in the field of acquired speech, language and swallowing disorders.

Essential

  • An appropriate qualification to practise as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Health and Care Professions Council licence to practise.
  • Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Undergraduate experience with an adult caseload relevant to the post.
  • Management of dysphagia within the undergraduate caseload.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to an adult client group including: dysphagia, Aphasia, dysarthria, dyspraxia, Aphonia, dysfluency.
  • Knowledge of a range of relevant therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group
  • Knowledge of the management of people with progressive neurological conditions.
  • An understanding of the range and applications of communication aids.
  • Knowledge of professional standards including record keeping.
  • An understanding of the roles of other professionals in acute, rehabilitation and community settings.
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to adults.
  • Knowledge of research and audit systems.
  • An understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
