Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic and patient focused medical professional to join our multidisciplinary team in QVM Inpatient Unit. You will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to provide highly specialist medical care to patients within scope of professional practice. You will be required to travel to various locations within Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust to provide medical knowledge and attend meetings that cannot be held virtually. We will consider applicants who wish to work part time and we can be flexible with the working pattern.

QVM is situated at the end of School Lane in Old Welwyn. The site is shared with Danesbury Neurological Centre. QVM has 22 rehabilitation beds for adults. The unit provides rehabilitation for patients following an acute hospital admission. Patients admitted to the unit can be either on a 19- or 28-day pathway. QVM is also the designated unit for plus size patients. This unit is also used to flex capacity for inpatient neurological rehab when required.

QVM has a dedicated nursing team and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Our therapy team consists of physios, occupational therapists and rehab assistants and we have access to dieticians, speech and language therapists and clinical psychologists. We have allocated social workers who are based at the unit. We also have GP trainees as part of the team, who you will be working alongside.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to carry out the duties outlined below. The job description will be subject to review in the light of changing needs of the population.

  • Deliver high quality medical support to patients looked after by HCT
  • The postholders are required provide medical cover for the wards as part of a shared rota from Monday to Friday. The postholder's timetable will be agreed with the successful candidates.
  • The postholders will provide medical cover to the unit. The successful candidates will be able to decide with HCT which ward(s) they will work on. It is hoped the successful candidates will work together as a team across the three areas. The postholders will need to Cross-cover for absent colleagues.
  • The postholders will need to undertake, exceptionally, additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances and to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
  • The postholders will be required to support GP trainees who are attached to HCT on rotational placements.
  • Act in line with the NHS constitution and HCT values
  • Observe policies and procedures written by the trust
