Job summary
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, motivated Consultant
to work in the Inpatients/Crisis Team based at the Stonebow Unit,
Herefordshire.
You will cover
approximately 12 patients on mixed general adult Mortimer Ward and 1x/week
Crisis Team and be supported by 2 junior doctors, ANP and/or ST4 trainee.
Mortimer Ward is undergoing refurbishment to provide a modern, therapeutic
environment for acute adult patients.
You will be delivering ECT alongside other consultants and join 1 in 11
on-call rota. You will have a dedicated office and a secretary.

The overall sessional pay with
on-call commitments will be 11 PA+ 1PA retention+1%+3%.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role include:
- Safely
assess and manage patients
- Act
as Responsible Clinician
- Undertake
MHA assessments as the approved doctor under Section 12(2) as required;
- Work
with local managers and professional colleagues
- Develop
and maintain care pathways and pathways of communication with other services
- Provide
and contribute to the development and standards of the ECT service
- Ensure effective patient aftercare plans
are developed, implemented and maintained, provide verbal and written evidence
to MHA Tribunals
- Undertake team supervision, contributing
to risk management, safeguarding and safe prescribing practices
- Liaise
with and give clinical advice to agreed statutory/voluntary agencies,
- Participate
and contribute to a regular clinical audit process to ensure services are of a
high quality and best clinical practice
- Undergo annual appraisal, develop a
personal development plan and remain in good CPD standing with the RCPsych
working towards relicensing and revalidation

This post is well-established and for many years filled by long-term colleagues; it became available due to an early retirement of the previous consultant. There is a weekly local teaching programme and a Trusts Grand Rounds monthly. You will be supported in your CPD and development of a special interest. You will be joining a supportive, cohesive group of consultants who work together to provide the services locally.

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- CCT holder or equivalent (or within 6 months of becoming eligible for CCT)
- Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment).
- GMC Licence to practice.

- Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act.
Desirable
- Higher degree of other qualification in research methodology.
