Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a 0.6 whole time equivalent Consultant Psychiatrist in a forward looking dynamic Perinatal Mental Health Service in Worcestershire

Team comprises of 0.6 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist (Post holder), 0.8 WTE Specialist Psychiatrist , 1.0 WTE Team Manager, 2.6 WTE Community Mental Health Nurses, 1.0 WTE Occupational Therapist, 0.6 WTE Social Worker, 0.6 WTE Clinical Psychologist, 0.2 WTE CBT therapist, 1.0 WTE Nursery Nurse.

The Worcestershire Perinatal Mental Health Team provides a service to all women who are registered with a GP in the county of Worcestershire. It covers a delivered population of around 5000 women. Worcester Royal Hospital provides maternity care for the whole of the county with antenatal care also provided at Kidderminster General Hospital and The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.

Flexible working arrangements will be considered.

Main duties of the job

CLINICAL DUTIES OF POSTHOLDER

Providing direct psychiatric services through the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.

Providing psychiatrist leadership to the multidisciplinary team and clinical leadership in collaboration with the team leader. The Consultant Psychiatrists responsibilities include treatment planning and regular reviews through outpatient contact or a multidisciplinary care programme approach that comprehensively addresses patients biopsychosocial needs.

Assuring the involvement of families and carers wherever possible with the patients consent in treatment planning.

Providing advice and support to other agencies, particularly services such as obstetrics, midwifery, health visiting, child and family social services and the acute liaison service.

Providing training for health care professionals, including mental healthcare professionals, in perinatal psychiatry.

Mental Health Act work.

Participate in the Consultant on call rota covering out of hours responsibilities including weekends.

Special emphasis on working within appropriate governance frameworks will be necessary in the area of the Mental Health Act (including Community Treatment Orders), Mental Capacity, choice and control and the safety of patients, carers, staff, and the general community.

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • CCT holder or equivalent (or within 6 months of becoming eligible for CCT)
  • Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment).
  • GMC Licence to practice.
  • MRC Psych (or equivalent)
  • Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act.

Desirable

  • Higher degree of other qualification in research methodology.
  • Qualification or previous training in leadership.
  • Qualification and/or experience in providing training for doctors

Experience

  • Provision of high-quality mental health services, as trainee or Consultant.
  • Previous experience of working in a clinical leadership role with positive relationships with team members.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of NHS Mental Health Services.
  • Previous experience of specialist perinatal mental health provision, both in the community and in inpatient units.
