Job summary

Are you a registered core professional or able to evidence that you can meet the Knowledge, Skills and Attitude (KSA) requirements of BABCP and are looking for a career change, or a chance to develop skills in Psychological Therapies?

We have a number of exciting opportunities in training to become an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist within the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Talking Therapies service.

Over the course of a year you will be supported to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural therapy at the University of Reading. The course is a Level 2 accredited course with BABCP. This means that upon completion of the course trainees will meet criteria to apply for provisional accreditation as a CBT therapist with the BABCP , and you will be offered a permanent Band 7 High Intensity Therapist post within the Service.

To apply, you must meet the criteria for CBT training and also have a BABCP-recognised professional background in mental health or related areas. This means having a BABCPrecognised Core Profession.

If you do not have a BABCP-recognised Core Profession, you must complete a portfolio of evidence to show that you have equivalent training and experience. This is known as the Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes portfolio (KSA).

Prior to this interview, you must have completed self-statements for the KSA criterion required based on your experience. Please see theBABCP website above for guidance and exemplars.

Main duties of the job

Please also be aware, if you have completed previous Health Education England funded training (e.g., PWP training), you cannot attend High Intensity training until 2 full years after your previous trainings exam boards we will require proof of this time period prior to interview if you completed PWP training in 2022.

A typical week involves spending 2 days at the University or Reading and 3 days in one of the Talking Therapies Teams across the Herefordshire and Worcestershire service.

At university you will be learning all the knowledge and skills to become an effective CBT therapist, the course will teach evidenced based CBT models to treat depression and anxiety disorders.

You will be supported by your supervisors at both university and within your team to apply this new knowledge to practice. Working within a hybrid model you will take a blended approach to home and office-based working - you will assess and provide CBT interventions to support individuals to work towards recovery. You will be offered regular opportunity for peer support and will share an effective interface both with your team and with relevant allied agencies within the care pathway.

Alongside managing a small caseload, you will also be undertaking academic assignments as required to complete the Post Graduate diploma, this includes recording clinical sessions. Preparation and organisation will form a key part of your weekly structure.
