Job summary

We are passionate about stroke and improving the quality of life for our stroke survivors. The Stroke Quality Improvement for Rehabilitation (SQuIRe) Project has enabled us to expand our team and start fully implementing the National Model for Integrated Community Stroke Services. This is an exciting opportunity to significantly enhance our service, supporting all stroke survivors in Worcestershire.

The job would be to work 18.75hrs over 2-3 days covering the county of Worcestershire alongside your SLT colleagues. We support flexible working, and the Trust is excellent in supporting well-being.

The ability to use your initiative, work proactively, demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills, work within a team, manage and prioritise your own workload and respond flexibly to changing demands are essential requirements of the post.

As a trust we offer a robust induction period and continue to promote opportunities for development through 1:1 supervision session, peer working and in-service training.

Main duties of the job

Day to day, with your SLT colleagues, you will be undertaking comprehensive assessments and treatment of stroke patients with speech, language, voice, fluency and/or swallowing disorders. You will formulate individual programmes of rehabilitation using clinical reasoning and utilise a range of treatment skills, targeting realistic and measurable, patient-led goals. It is also expected that you will offer support and education to carers/families and the wider team.

You will input into the weekly MDT in which the team will discuss the progress of patients and identify goals that are achieved and ongoing. You will also need skills in advising, educating, skills in motivating and counselling and providing patient-centred care.

Fully independent in the management of dysphagia
RCSLT Newly Qualified Practitioner Framework completed, resulting in full membership of the RCSLT
Experience of delivering training to others
Documented evidence of CPD
