Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, Specialty Doctor to join the Community Paediatric Team covering Evesham and Worcester locality within the Trust. The successful candidate will be working within an experienced multidisciplinary team with 11 Consultants and 3 Specialty Doctors. The service is continually improving and developing, and full engagement of the Specialty Doctors is encouraged. The Community paediatric team works closely with colleagues from the SALT, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, CAMHS and Portage services. Community Paediatricians participate and prepare the EHCP assessments and needs assessments for children with additional needs.

Main duties of the job

The specialty doctor has delegated authority and responsibility for Community Paediatric services assigned to them, under the supervision of the Consultant Community Paediatrician.

This includes:

Providing direct paediatric services through the comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients assigned to them

Making final decisions regarding diagnosis and management of patients in accordance with medical standards

Assuring the involvement of parents & carers and, wherever possible, the child or young person in treatment planning

Providing paediatric leadership to the multidisciplinary team. The Community Paediatricians responsibility in the multidisciplinary out-patient team includes treatment planning and regular reviews that comprehensively address the needs of the Child or Young Person and their family

Liaising with other agencies particularly with regard to continuity of patient care. This is particularly important in complex cases.

Participation in teaching, clinical audit, quality assurance programmes and clinical governance is encouraged

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment).
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • A relevant post graduate qualification eg MRCPCH, DCH, MSc etc.
  • Qualification and/or experience in providing teaching or training for doctors.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 4 years (or equivalent) postgraduate training, two of which must have been in a relevant specialty.
  • Previous experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team with positive relationships with team members.
  • Experience of safeguarding procedures.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in other areas relevant to community paediatrics such as general practice, child mental health, public health or sexual health.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding normal child development and ability to recognise and manage abnormality
  • Understanding of the importance of excellent team working relationships and ability to put this into practice.
  • Knowledge of appropriate medical, pharmacological and psychological treatments.
