Job summary

Mortimer Ward is a 21 bed admission ward for adults predominantly aged 18 to 65 with acute mental illness. Our patients often have complex needs and the successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for a holistic approach to meeting those care needs. We work closely with allied health professionals within the Unit and our aim is to maximise the health and wellbeing of the patients in our care, supporting them and their families. We are looking to appoint a motivated and dynamic individual to join our Multi-disciplinary team and manage this busy Ward.

Part of your role is to ensure patient care is of the highest standards, acting as a role model at all times and using your initiative to maintain quality and safety.

Main duties of the job

To provide a leading role within a multi-disciplinary team involved with the clinical management of patients with acute mental health problems within an inpatient setting.

To provide professional and clinical leadership to the ward team, maintaining the responsibility for the planning and provision of 24 hour inpatient care.

Ensure high standards of patient care are maintained, guaranteeing patients’ individuality and privacy are maintained at all times.

To maintain and develop high standards of care appertaining to the mental and physical well-being of patients and promoting a person centred approach.

Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all Trust policies and procedures and apply them as necessary.

  • Entry on the NMC register (Part 13)
  • Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) or Registered Nurse (Mental)
  • Teaching & assessing qualification ENB 997/8 or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous skills and knowledge updating (Personal Portfolio)
  • Up to date training in: Safety Intervention (Level 2), Intermediate Life Support and treatment of anaphylaxis, Risk management, Mental Health Act 1983, Manual Handling, Fire, Care Programme Approach, NCRS, Blood Glucose monitoring, Basic First Aid
