Job summary

This post is only open to current employees of the Trust, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust & the ICB.

This is a fixed term post to provide cover for absence for specific purpose that we anticipate will be required for 6 months. We reserve the right to end this contract sooner with appropriate notice.

We are seeking a motivated practitioner to join our Team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a key organisational role supporting patient safety across a diverse range of services.

Working as part of a supportive and experienced team, you will support incident management processes, governance and reporting arrangements, and help ensure that learning from incidents is identified, shared and embedded in practice.

A central element of the role will be supporting delivery of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), including incident oversight, learning response reviews and improvement activity. Applicants must have completed Level 2 Systems Approach to Learning from Patient Safety Incidents (or equivalent) and demonstrate an understanding of PSIRF and systems-based approaches.

We welcome applications from experienced Band 7 colleagues with a background in patient safety, quality or governance, as well as Band 6 practitioners who meet the essential criteria and are looking to develop into a senior patient safety role.

Full time (3037.5 hours per week), MonFri with hybrid working available.

Main duties of the job

Lead and manage the Patient Safety Team, including line management of the Patient Safety Coordinator and Administrator.

Act as the Trusts expert in patient safety, ensuring statutory compliance and high-quality service delivery.

Support and deputise for the Patient Safety Service Lead, and oversee daily incident triage and investigation processes.

Provide expert advice to senior managers and clinical teams in relation to patient safety events, learning, and improvement.

Analyse, evaluate, and report on patient safety data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for change.

Promote a proactive and positive culture of safety and learning, including developing and delivering training.

Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including service users and system partners, to ensure excellence in patient safety outcomes.

Contribute to the wider quality governance agenda, aligning patient safety with complaints, claims, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance.
