Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust

Clinical Lead Speech & Language Therapist

The closing date is 25 May 2025

Job summary

This is a 12 month fixed term post to cover maternity leave. You will support our high risk patients who require a fast response in order to prevent hospital admissions where possible. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and widely experienced therapist to join the countywide Worcestershire Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service, which covers Community Hospitals, Out-patient Clinics and Specialist Teams, with the aim of providing the optimum evidence-based service for the people of Worcestershire.

This is a Part time post working 30.75 hours for Fast Response negotiable hours to fit with individual needs and the needs of the service, where the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing this caseload and coordinating responses to patients in urgent need. You will support students and junior colleagues as well as advising the Service Lead in your area of expertise and in relation to National Guidance for disorders and conditions managed by SLT.

Clinically, you will provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and case management for clients with a range of communication disorders and dysphagia related to a variety of diagnoses and will maintain your own caseload.

You will be supported with excellent management and clinical supervision in this post, which is based in the north of the county.

If you wish to be considered for a secondment please gain permission from your Substantive Manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

You will be integral to the continued development of the Service into a high performing, well respected provider of timely, safe and effective Speech and Language Therapy for our patients, therefore we require an ambitious and creative individual who is self-driven, displays excellent leadership skills, and who also works well within a team.

A typical day will involve overseeing and managing a caseload of fast response referrals, prioritising and coordinating visits across the county as well as assessing and managing patients within this client group yourself, alerting the service lead of any potential concerns regarding capacity and demand.

You will support and supervise less experienced colleagues in the development of their clinical skills in this area; communicate with families and carers; liaise with other members of the team and MDT colleagues; support student placements; provide in service training for SLT colleagues and other professions in areas related to SLT; conduct audits as required by the service and the Trust; and progress the quality agenda including attendance at SDU quality meetings for highly specialist staff.

You will also maintain a small general caseload based in the north of the county, working at a highly specialist level.
