An
opportunity has arisen for a Full Time Consultant
in Adult Psychiatry Intensive Care Unit,
as part of clinically led strategy for patient care.
Post
is fulltime based in Hadley Ward in Worcester. Candidate will be working alongside
a SAS grade. Less than fulltime and flexible working applicants are welcome to
apply.
Consideration
will be given to flexibility in timetable e.g (remote working).
Designated
office space will be provided along with a trust laptop and smartphone.
This
post is eligible for removal expenses. Use of SPA time for career and

Main duties of the job
Hadley is a 9 bed psychiatric intensive care
unit based in the Elgar Unit, Newtown Hospital, Worcester, WR5 1JG. The Unit
provides care and support for patients who have been identified as being at a
higher risk of harm to themselves or others. The Unit accepts male and female
patients. The Unit has been recently refurbished.
The ethos of Hadley is to provide robust
assessment and treatment for patients experiencing a period of acute illness,
presenting with increased risks that do not allow safe or therapeutic
engagement in a less acute setting. PICUs role is to provide a responsive
multi-disciplinary team approach to respond intensively and clinically to
patients risks and needs.

Job responsibilities
- Providing direct psychiatric services through the comprehensive
assessment, diagnosis and care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on
evidence-based treatment within a biopsychosocial model.
- Providing psychiatrist leadership to the multidisciplinary team
and clinical leadership in collaboration with the middle grade doctor,
psychologist, ward managers, nursing staff and occupational therapy staff along
with community teams. The Consultant Psychiatrists responsibilities include
treatment planning and regular reviews in line with multidisciplinary care
programme approach that comprehensively address patients biopsychosocial
needs.
- Assuring the involvement of families and carers wherever possible
with the patients consent in treatment planning.
- Mental Health Act work. AC approval and Sec 12(2) is required
- To participate in the Consultant on call rota covering out of
hours responsibilities including weekends.
- Special emphasis on working within appropriate governance
frameworks will be necessary in the area of the Mental Health Act (including
Community Treatment Orders), Mental Capacity, choice and control and the safety
of patients, carers, staff and the general community.
- The development of any other clinical interest could proceed on
the basis of appropriate funding being available. The appointee will be
expected to develop his or her clinical role within the framework of the
Trusts strategy and within its financial constraints. Dedicated sessions may
be available by agreement.
- Flexibility to shape and respond to changing service requirements.
E.g supporting other services as when required in agreement with the Line
Manager.

Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- CCT holder or equivalent (or within 6 months of becoming eligible for CCT)
- Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment).
- GMC Licence to practice.
- MRC Psych (or equivalent)
- Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12 (2) of the Mental Health Act.
- Eligible to work in the UK
