Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to come and join our team on Lickey Ward. If you have an interest in caring for the older adult and want to work in a high functioning team to support patients and their families to restore / maintain independence following ill health, this could be the post for you.

We are a twenty-six bedded specialist rehabilitation / frailty care ward. Patients are admitted under the care of our Advanced Clinical Practitioner team who are supported by a General Practitioner. The Unit is staffed 24/7 with Band 5 nurses who work 12.5-hour shifts, over a 7-day period including days and nights.and medical support is available out of hours and over a weekend.

Referrals to the Ward are made from other professionals including GPs, Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultants and our neighbouring Acute Trusts. Admission would be considered for patients who are experiencing acute ill health and require additional treatments / symptom managements, difficulties with their mobility and/or social setting.

Main duties of the job

As a Staff Nurse you will be responsible for providing care and symptom control to older adults. We work closely as a multi-disciplinary team providing specialist rehabilitation whilst promoting independence. Our focusispromoting the comfort, safety and wellbeing of patients, enablingthemto live as wellas possible in a community setting. On Lickey ward we ensure the care we provide is patient focused and tailored to everyone's individual needs. This often involved the team advocating a patient's wishes and thinking outside the box to ensure safety can be maintained on discharge.

As a Staff Nurse you will have the opportunity to develop clinical skills in venepuncture, cannulation, IV therapy, management of syringe pumps and many more. Working on Lickey ward requires excellent communication skills and the ability to have open, honest conversations with patients and their relatives during difficult times. As a team we encourage ongoing learning and development through reflection and clinical supervision which we try and embed in our daily practice.
