Job summary

We are pleased to present an exciting Band 6 Speech and Language Therapy role. This post may also be considered for a Developmental role Band 5 to Band 6.

We are looking for a dynamic, passionate, and driven therapist to join us on a full-time basis, in our Community Adult Speech and Language Therapy team based in the London Borough of Hounslow.

If you are looking for a developmental Band 5 to 6 role, there will be an agreed plan in place, to support the successful candidate in development the relevant competencies to develop from a Band 5 to a Band 6 Specialist Clinician. There will be support and encouragement provided to take more autonomy over aspects of clinical and non-clinical work overtime. We will use a Personal Development Plan to set objectives for development, and review this regularly. Supervisor/s will provide support in identifying areas of learning and the associated activities required to work towards these objectives.

Main duties of the job

Our community-based teams provide communication and dysphagia assessment and therapy, for adults with acquired neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, TBI, dementia), non-neurological conditions (e.g., cancer, COPD) and progressive neurological conditions (e.g., MND, HD, MS, PSP). We have links to local hospitals with invitations to attend outpatient VFSS, and service development opportunities' including nursing home training, group therapy and exploring a range of equipment such as iQoro, EMST and Biozoon. In addition we work along side a fully functioning Voice Service. We also provide a fantastic opportunity to provide SLT support within our neuro rehabilitation team know as 'Neuro timely' aiming to function like an ESD service providing intensive therapy over a 4 week period working closely within the MDT (Physio, OT, Neuro Psychology and Rehabilitation assistants).

We provide a full induction programme, including provision of a laptop, mobile and mandatory training. Our team offers well-established monthly supervision and annual appraisal. You will have access to a local base, agile working and team of supportive colleagues within the MDT.

We hold monthly SLT service meetings and engage in monthly in-service and cross-service CPD, with regular opportunities to present. We also offer weekly case study discussions.

The role is Band 6, but there is an opportunity for Band 5 development role.

  • Diploma or degree leading to the RCSLT Certificate to Practice
  • Registered member of RCSLT and Health and Care Professions Council
  • Postgraduate dysphagia training
  • To be familiar with relevant legislation/guidelines relating to the care of clients with a neurological condition
  • Understand the impact of communication breakdown on the client's emotional well-being, mental health, functional ability and social inclusion

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training in the area of neuro-rehabilitation

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team and awareness of the issues
  • Independent supervision and teaching of SLT students
  • Participation in audit/outcome measurement
