Main duties of the job
This is an internal vacancy and we invite applications from employees of Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust only.
NHS Band 8C : Salary £27,485 - £30,162.
Contract: Permanent
Full time: 37.5 hours per week.
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional leader to join our Single Corporate Services team as Associate Director of Quality Governance. This pivotal post supports both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, working collaboratively to ensure we continue to provide safe, effective, and high-quality care across both organisations.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Nurse and accountable to the Chief Nurse, you will lead the Trusts approach to Quality Governance, Risk Management, Health, Safety, and Patient Safety systems, ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and best practice standards. You will play a key role in developing and embedding our safety, learning, and improvement culture.

The single corporate service is delivered across both organisation. You may be based at either IWT or PHU and individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. For leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, you will need to be visible and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed locally

- Provide senior strategic leadership across all aspects of quality governance, health and safety, and risk management.
- Lead on the development and implementation of the Trusts Quality Governance Framework and associated strategies.
- Ensure robust systems for incident reporting, investigation, and learning, aligned with the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).
- Oversee risk management processes and ensure effective assurance and escalation pathways from ward to Board.
- Provide expert advice to the Executive Team and Board on quality, safety, and risk.
- Chair the Health, Safety and Environmental Risk Group and represent the Trust at key external meetings.
- Support delivery of the Quality and Clinical Services Strategy, including production of the Quality Account and monitoring of key quality indicators.
- Work collaboratively with regulators, commissioners, and other partners including NHS England, ICB, and the CQC.
About You
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader with a proven track record in quality governance within a complex healthcare organisation. You will have:
- Significant senior management experience within the NHS or similar healthcare setting.
- In-depth understanding of quality governance, health and safety, and risk management frameworks.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships across multi-agency systems.
- Experience of developing and implementing strategic plans, policies, and Board-level reports.
- A commitment to continuous improvement, patient safety, and the Trust values.
