The Special Care Baby Unit on the Isle of Wight has an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Qualified in Speciality Neonatal Nurses to join our friendly and supportive team.

As a designated Level 1 Neonatal unit we have four special care cots which provide care to babies born from 32 weeks gestation. In addition, we provide critical care and stabilisation for sick newborn and preterm babies of any gestation prior to their transfer to tertiary neonatal services for on-going critical care. We also work in conjunction with Maternity Services to prevent the unnecessary separation of babies and their parents, providing care for babies who require additional support, but do not need admission to the Neonatal unit, in a dedicated Transitional Care facility.

There will also be an expectation that successful candidates will undertake rotation to a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to maintain their expert qualified in specialty neonatal skills and knowledge.

Main duties of the job

  • As a senior member of the nursing team, you will be responsible for managing and co-ordinating the unit caseload ensuring and providing a high standard of nursing care. You will initiate the assessment, planning and evaluation of individual patient needs from admission to discharge without direct supervision thus ensuring all patients receive individualised patient care that is documented appropriately. All actions need to be in line with NMC codes and other statutory and organisational standards.
  • Maintain patient comfort, dignity and privacy at all times. Liaise with patients, relatives and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Supervise, educate, train and develop the workforce within your area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate a continued commitment to professional development.
  • Maintain high standards of care in an environment, which promotes equality and sensitivity for all individuals.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for neonatal nursing and a commitment to providing high quality, family integrated care to babies and their families. They will also possess excellent communication and organizational skills and a positive approach to change.

The post is open to those who are already a Band 6 Neonatal Nurse and are looking for a new challenge, as well as those who have recently undertaken their qualified in specialty training and are ready for their first Band 6 Post
