Location:Across sites, both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (frequency of visits to each site, to be agreed locally)

Main duties of the job
The role
This role reports to the Trust's Head of Sustainability & Energy who is the strategic lead for the green agenda across both Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. The Energy & Sustainability Manager role will take the lead on all aspects relating to energy consumption and reduction as well as provide the opportunity to work across other aspects of sustainability linked to estates & facilities. You will be asked to identify, gain support, plan and deliver a range of solutions with measurable benefits to the NHS Net Zero carbon targets. This will include securing sources of funding to deliver programmes of work.
In relation to energy this will mean getting to grips with energy data and consumption. Analysing the Trust's energy needs and informing decisions that minimise energy use and driving a shift to low-carbon alternatives. This will include overseeing implementation of LED lighting schemes, investment in renewable energy schemes and delivery of our ambitious Heat Decarbonisation plans.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious candidate who will drive practical change and deliver against the ambitious NHS Net Zero targets. You will ideally be an energy specialist or an experienced building services engineer with a good understanding of energy efficiency in buildings. You will have practical experience of leading and supporting change programmes including energy saving, and carbon reduction initiatives. You will be able to interpret energy data and use it to identify actions. You will have a good broad understanding of sustainability, including the wider impacts of climate change and air quality on health, and the benefits of biodiversity and quality green infrastructure on wellbeing. A working knowledge of the NHS and or a PFI contract environment would be useful but not essential.
The Trust has plans in place to decarbonise heating and invest in renewable energy and you will have a key role to play in taking this work forward. We will be refreshing our Green (sustainability) Plan shortly and wanting you to help drive our plans to deliver significant reduction in energy usage and efficiency. You will be able to shape the future of the Trust helping it grow our reputation whilst rolling your sleeves up and delivering real and tangible change.
