We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, highly adaptable individuals to join our reception team at St. Mary's Hospital Blood Science's Department.
More than one million tests are received and processed each year by the department. The main duties of the role include specimen receipt and requesting onto the laboratory computer system. Applicants must be able to demonstrate an organised and thorough approach to their work. Previous NHS laboratory experience is an advantage although full training for the role will be provided.

Receipt of pathology specimens via Vacuum Tube System or by hand
Sorting of pathology specimens as required ensuring details on request form and specimen match and date and time stamp
Allocation of laboratory accession number to microbiology samples and distribution of specimens to appropriate areas of the laboratory.
Liaising with other Trust staff e.g. doctors in clinics, patient transport service.
Entry of patient details and tests required onto laboratory computer system; checking information with requestors if discrepancies are noted.
Collection and sorting of laboratory reports for distribution, answer telephone enquiries and transmit laboratory results by telephone.
Receipt of microbiology parcels delivered to Pathology.
Packaging and delivery of dirty laundry to collection point (for Pathology) and sorting, distribution and storage of clean laundry (for Pathology).
Disposal of clinical waste in microbiology.
Filing of laboratory paperwork.
Daily, weekly and monthly house keeping duties
Receipt, unload and store supplies, reagents and consumables as they arrive.
