An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a band 7 Fetal Surveillance Midwife. We are looking for a midwife with expertise in Fetal Wellbeing. The candidate must have extensive knowledge of all aspects of maternity care and be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and committed to the provision of a high-quality service with excellent leadership skills.
As a fetal monitoring expert the midwife is responsible for: providing professional leadership across all aspects of fetal monitoring, working alongside the lead obstetrician, the matron for inpatient services and the practice education team to improve birth outcomes associated with fetal surveillance.
The responsibility includes raising the profile of fetal wellbeing monitoring both in Electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) and Intermittent auscultation (IA) and ensure that colleagues engaged in fetal wellbeing monitoring are adequately supported.
Take a lead in the implementation of elements 3 and 4 of the saving babies lives care bundle version 3, to ensure patient safety, clinical effectiveness and quality improvement is of the highest standard, is meeting national and local outcomes.
Along with the consultant lead obstetrician the midwife must ensure that their maternity service is compliant with the recommendations of Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle 3 and subsequent national guidelines.
Main duties of the job
The candidate must be able to deliver and monitor a training programme to equip midwives to increase their knowledge and competence in all aspects of fetal surveillance including; CTG interpretation, intermittent auscultation, human factors and GAP/GROW compliance. Participate in the intrapartum fetal surveillance updates as part of the PROMPT faculty.

The maternity service is part of the SHIP collaborative and opportunities will be available to work within our neighbouring trusts, to share and demonstrate evidenced based practice to promote optimal learning.
