Job summary

Our amazing switchboard team, who have recently been recognised by the Trust with a Hidden Heroes award are looking for a new Supervisor! This small and hard working team do a fantastic job behind the scenes, often going above and beyond to assist patients, their relatives and staff members as well as monitoring emergency systems and managing the Trust emergency 2222 line.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours) permanent contract, the hours are to be worked mainly during office hours but as this is a 24 hour service there will be times when some evening/night and/or weekend work may be required. We will be reviewing and updating the current Job Description when the successful candidate is in post - this will be an exciting opportunity to influence the development of the role and bring fresh ideas into the team.

The appointed candidate will lead the team with enthusiasm and maintain their current high standards. Team Lead experience would be beneficial as well as advanced IT skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations whilst assisting others to do the same. This role is diverse, in any week you could be training new staff, supporting existing staff as well as troubleshooting faults with systems, responding to emergency alarms and many other tasks. We are looking for someone with proven leadership skills who can self manage their workload and support the Team to maintain this essential round the clock service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder has responsibility for the provision of a professional, comprehensive and efficient administrative service for the switchboard service within the Clinical Coordination Centre (CCC). This will involve providing a comprehensive administrative service to a specialty team of Switchboard Operators.

The purpose of the Switchboard Operator's job is to operate the telephony and related equipment within the Switchboard Department and maintain an accurate record of on call staff. In addition, the Switchboard Operator monitors alarm systems, operates the hospital 2222 emergency telephone system and distributes accommodation keys, which the post holder will need to have knowledge of. The post holder will be responsible, working in conjunction with the other Switchboard Operators, or alone (dependent on the shift), for the provision of a comprehensive switchboard service to internal and external callers. The post holder is required to develop awareness of Trust policies and procedures, geographical knowledge of the site and dependent sites, as well as awareness of events within the Trust.

The department plays a crucial role in the running of the hospital by providing a continuous communication service both for Trust Staff and users of the services the Trust provides, utilising internal and external communications available.
