Job summary
We are seeking a full time Consultant Pathologist to join our established and enthusiastic team in providing a high-quality general histopathology/diagnostic cytology service. It is a new post creating a team of five full time Pathologists, four Consultant and one Associate Specialist. The department also has Advanced Practice Histology Dissection undertaken by Biomedical Scientists and supports a candidate on the RCPath Advanced Specialist Diploma in Histology Reporting of GI specimens. We are a small district general hospital, so we primarily seek a General Pathologist. Development of sub-specialty interests that complement the needs of the department is encouraged.
The contract is for 10 PA. The Trust is happy to consider flexible working in support of work life balance. Extended days, compressed hours and part time working may be considered. There is no requirement to undertake on-call, in such cases modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
A successful candidate may have, or may wish to, develop special professional interests and this is encouraged provided it complements and enhances the overall work of the department. The post-holder will be encouraged to develop academic and educational links with colleagues in nearby mainland Trusts.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will share the histopathology and cytopathology workload equally with the other consultant pathologists. Medicolegal autopsies however are not part of the NHS contract and are performed at the behest of HM Isle of Wight Coroner, autopsies can be undertaken during 'normal office hours' (based on the agreement with the Clinical Director). The pursuit of service developments will be encouraged, particularly where these relate to service needs.
