Job summary

We are now looking for an exceptional Clinical Director to lead and support our unplanned Care Group. We are looking for someone to work in partnership with our Director of Operations to set out and deliver a strategy for the care group that will exploit the opportunities of an integrated Trust at the heart of the community.

The role involves working across all Divisions of the Trust, supporting other clinical leads and director's in leading the medical workforce, the delivery of quality and operational priorities and working with the transformation team through an exciting period of organisation development. You will play a key role in developing our acute partnership with Portsmouth Hospital University NHS Trust.Our unique situation doesn't come without challenges, as a team we are not daunted by these and are keen to welcome the right person willing to help us achieve our goals. Job responsibilities

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is the only integrated Trust in the country that combines, acute, community, mental health, and ambulance. You will support the Medical Director and Chief Operating Officer in delivering the principle responsibilities of the role, in particular focussing on overseeing standards within the medical workforce and development of directorate strategic plans in line with the overall Trust strategy. You will work with the Clinical Leads and the Specialty Leads to provide the professional leadership and oversight of the clinical services.

You will work in collaboration with the unplanned senior management team to deliver across identified key objectives. Ensuring clinical engagement, taking responsibility for clinical governance, clinical safety, and risk management.

The role will involve working with colleagues to identify and understand where these priorities are not met, working together to solve problems, improve and innovate.

Quality and Safety Objectives

As Clinical Director ensure the quality and safety agenda is delivered ensuring that regulatory and statutory standards are achieved. Working to improve clinical outcomes, reduce patient harm and improve patient experience.

You will demonstrate consistent approaches to establish and monitor required standards of care, as defined by the Trust, NICE, GIRFT and other relevant bodies (HEE, Royal Colleges). Support the delivery of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework with the need to advise on management of incidents and complaints.

Leadership

The post holder must be able to inspire, motivate and develop our future medical and clinical leaders. We are committed to encouraging medical leadership in the organisation and the post holder will play a pivotal role in delivering this ambition.

The post holder must actively demonstrate behaviours in alignment with the Trusts vision and values and promote these as a role model, encouraging others to do the same.

Adhere to compliance with Trust policies and procedures and professional codes of conduct. The post holder will support the delivery of professional, inclusive compassionate leadership for medical and other clinical staff through effective role modelling and professional development activities.

As a Clinical Director you will mediate with colleagues to resolve conflict arising between different disciplines, bringing personal influence and diplomacy to bear for the benefit of the service. Work to build collaborative relationships with other leaders to create a cohesive leadership team.

Promote a culture of learning and improvement in the organisation by actively encouraging innovation and improvement from colleagues and teams within the service, and more widely where appropriate.

Communicate effectively within the service and with the senior leadership team to ensure that there is clarity of purpose and objectives. Engage with external partners and stakeholders to ensure that corporate objectives are shared appropriately outside of the Trust.

Performance and Strategic Objectives

The post holder will take a key role in monitoring and evaluating clinical performance of all clinical staff and services within your care group, ensuring that under performance is clearly identified early, and where appropriate, timely action is taken in response.

Ensure that where under performance is identified; improvement is managed locally in the first instance. Where more serious concerns arise, the post holder will ensure that matters are escalated to the Medical Director and/or Chief Operating Officer.

The post holder will support the senior leadership team with the development of service improvements that aim to make healthcare more effective, accessible, and affordable. They will promote organisational efficiency, demonstrate cost effectiveness, and embed a culture of value for money against agreed clinical quality outcomes, contributing to the development and delivery of a robust Cost Improvement Plan.

You will work in partnership with the senior leadership team to effectively communicate the financial improvement plan for your care group and take action to ensure that financial drivers and impacts are understood by colleagues and decision making is underpinned by sound financial awareness.
