Main duties of the job

This post will provide a comprehensive general urology outpatient, inpatient and diagnostic and day case surgery service for urology patients. Those who are skilled in the surgical management of BPH would be particularly welcomed.

This appointment will focus on developing the Urology service on the Isle of Wight and support our joint strategy across the Partnership.

The postholder will be expected to demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, clinical teams, the Trust and when participating in national initiatives.

About us

The Island urology service covers the core island population needs of general urology, urological oncology and stones. Paediatric urology is provided by a general paediatric surgeon, with onward referral, if required to our paediatric surgical partners at UHS. Patients requiring complex stone surgery and laparoscopic and robotic interventions are currently treated at PHU.

The urology team is supported by several Specialty Doctors and operates a shared take with general surgery supported by Foundation doctors and middle grades.

Our partnership arrangements with Portsmouth Hospitals University (PHU) NHS Trust continue to develop and strengthen. Both organisations are committed to a collaborative model of service delivery for Urology - a single service across both sites. A guiding principle will be equity of care and outcomes for urological patients presenting anywhere within the Partnership. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to define the details of the service delivered on Island. They will be integral to the team and will be involved in future developments.
