Chief Operating Officer
Band 9 + 10% R&R
The Chief Operating Officer will report directly to the Chief Officer and will provide senior professional, strategic and operational leadership for Acute Services. Your primary focus will be providing strong and effective leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.
You will be part of the Trust Leadership Team and will need to work closely with colleagues to deliver the Trust's agenda.
You will provide support to clinical, medical, and operational managers to affect the safe, efficient delivery of care. You will be key to driving our partnership with Portsmouth and maximising this unique opportunity.
Main duties of the job
We very much work as part of a system now and the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to work at this level.
As a proven and credible Operational Director with substantial experience in a similar role or setting you will have significant experience of collaboration and system working.
The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the development and delivery of high quality and cost-effective acute services in line with NHS, Commissioner and regulatory requirements, trust objectives and our improvement initiatives.
As Chief Operating Officer you shall ensure the full recovery of elective and emergency acute services in line with NHS constitutional standards shall provide leadership and clarity of purpose for the Divisional teams.
You will have a demonstrable track record of achievement, performance management improvement and delivery at a senior managerial level. In return you will be joining a committed, supportive, and close working leadership team, who set high standards for our patients.

- The post holder is expected to establish and maintain relationships which enable the Trust to operate effectively with clinicians, managers and partners focused on improving outcomes and services to patients.
- Ensure the Trust is able to meet all national and local performance targets and work closely with Divisional teams to ensure standards are met and support Divisions in taking corrective action where necessary.
- Liaise with regulators to provide assurance on performance recovery plans
- To engage in and ensure delivery of the vision and objectives of the Trust to achieve continuous improvement of service delivery, monitor performance against these and take corrective action on poor performance.
- Motivate and develop Divisional leadership teams to promote a culture of collaboration and strategic cohesion across the Trust and Integrated Care System and Integrated Care Partnerships.
- Responding to and developing sustainable solutions for issues highlighted by regulatory bodies e.g. Care Quality Commission
- Supporting, demonstrating and promoting a positive organisational culture for the Trust that reflects Trust values and our improvement initiatives.
- Ensure the implementation of clinical and care standards and disseminate lessons learned from recommendations, critical incidents and complaints as identified by local processes and other scrutiny organisations.
