Job summary
We are looking to recruit an outstanding Pharmacy Technician with a keen interest in mental health and clinical development of the Medicines management technician..
You will be required to develop, manage and oversee the medicines management technical services to wards and clinic areas and teams within the Trust. Providing leadership and training to the Medicines Management/Optimisation Technicians. .
Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification for all essential and desirable criteria required for the role and for the other key tasks and responsibilities.
You will need to hold a recognised Pharmacy Technician qualification (BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences, NVQ level 3 or equivalent), be a technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have a complete record of CPD.
Main duties of the job
To manage alongside the senior team the provision of the technical pharmacy service to SHSC and other organisations under our oversight.
To develop, manage and oversee the medicines management technical services to wards and clinic areas and teams within the Trust.
To be responsible for providing leadership and training to the Medicines Management/Optimisation Technicians and in the promotion and development of ward and clinic area-based pharmacy technician services.
Work confidently with service users, carers and healthcare staff internally and with other organisations to ensure service users are safe with their medicines.
To manage the technical staff whilst undertaking the medicines management role and to monitor the operational procedures undertaken by them.
Support the Senior Pharmacy Technician Leads during annual leave to ensure the day to day running of the department.

Medicines Management
- Manage the medicines management technicians (MMT) across the wards and clinical areas.
- To lead alongside clinical pharmacists and nursing staff to support the medicines management service to wards and clinical areas.
- To ensure service users receive the highest standards of care in management of their medications.
- Carrying out medicines reconciliation, assessment of patients own drugs (PODs), checking medications on wards for non-stock and stock medication.
- Training and assessing staff to complete the MMT courses.
- Lead and support on the improvement of the service during the admission and discharge processes with regards to medications.
- Develop, oversee and participate in the counselling of service users, including the training of staff.
Medicines Optimisation
- Advise medical, nursing and other staff on pharmaceutical or therapeutic problems and promote the rational prescribing and use of medicines.
- Participate in and support the development of departmental clinical medicines information systems and answer queries resulting from medicines use within the Trust.
- Transformation of the services and developing links to ensure collaborative working on service development.
- Improvement in quality of reports. Sharing learning and supporting embedding of evidence-based and best practice within teams.
- Audit work to be complete related to medications.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures related to Medicine use in the trust.
- Provide regular feedback and updates to other members of the pharmacy department on the structure and delivery of the medicines management/optimisation service.
- Report Key Performance Indicators and support the pharmacy vision.
Managerial
- Perform Individual Performance Reviews for Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants who you line manage.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of new Technical and Assistant Technical staff where required.
- Contribute to departmental forward planning and the Trust and Pharmacy Strategy.
- Represent the Trust at appropriate Regional forums.
- Provide cover support for other Specialist Technicians when required.
- Write and delegate where appropriate Standard Operating Procedures specific to role and comment on other specialised procedures.
